HC Deb 27 March 1991 vol 188 c473W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assistance scientists from his Department are offering to Kuwait to(a) seal off chemicals from bombed chemical plants to prevent them from getting into the water table, (b) mitigate the effects of faecal-oral infection from damaged sewerage systems and (c) restore irrigation and water course systems damaged by military action in the Gulf war.

Mr. Curry

We have had no requests from Gulf states for assistance with these matters. The requests the Government have received have focused on the priority tasks of tackling oil and atmospheric pollution and we have of course responded urgently and positively by providing manpower, equipment and funds. The Government are also ready to help in identifying appropriate United Kingdom science expertise in relation to Gulf environmental problems.
