To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many(a) doctors, (b) consultants and (c) nurses were employed by the South Lincolnshire health authority in March 1979 and in March 1991.

¹Grades include Registrars, Senior House Officers, House Officers and Other Staff. Numbers of staff at Senior doctor level are available by region only since the contracts for these staff are held by their regional Headquarters.

³Figures not adjusted to take account of the reduction in nurses' working hours during 1980–81 (from 40 to 37.5 hours per week).

⁴Reorganisation of District Health Authorities took place in 1982. Figures for 1979 are therefore not directly comparable.
