To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the pilot schemes to test the conversion of rents to mortgages for local authority tenants.

Pilot schemes have been launched for new town tenants in Basildon and Milton Keynes. When the results are available, we will consider carefully whether to propose legislation extending rents to mortgages to local authority tenants.
