How many institutions offer initial teacher training courses; and in how many of those institutions, and for how many courses, the formal accreditation process has been completed in accordance with the new criteria set out by the Department of Education and Science in Circular 24/89.

There are at present 94 institutions offering initial teacher training in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Nineteen separate courses at 10 institutions have been formally accredited by the Secretary of State for Education and Science since 1st January 1990, when the criteria in Circular 24/89 came into effect.
