HC Deb 26 March 1991 vol 188 c386W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what consultation he has had with teachers concerning the publication of national curriculum test results for seven-year-olds; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will make a statement on the publication of national curriculum test results for seven-year-olds in Wales.

Sir Wyn Roberts

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the press announcement which I made on this issue on 20 February, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House.

Primary schools will be required to inform parents of the individual results of the assessment of their children at the end of key stage 1—seven-year-old pupils. There will be no statutory requirement for schools to publish aggregate results more widely although they are encouraged to do so.

Future requirements for the collection and publication of data arising from the national curriculum assessment arrangements are still being determined. I will consult with the Curriculum Council for Wales, the School Examinations and Assessment Council, local education authorities and others on any proposed regulations.
