Salmon and Sea Trout

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the most up-to-date estimate of the number of(a) salmon and (b) sea trout making spawning runs in the waters and Rivers (i) Taff and (ii) Ely or their estuarial waters for each year since 1987.

There are no means of recording the number of salmon and sea trout entering to spawn on the rivers Taff and Ely or their esturial waters. However, records are kept by the Welsh region of the National Rivers Authority of the number of these fish reported by anglers, captured by the NRA, or found dead. These records provide minimum estimates of the runs of salmon and sea trout into the two rivers, and are as follows:
