HL Deb 25 March 1991 vol 527 c50WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many cells in prisons in England and Wales are not in use because of disputes over staffing levels; and which prisons are affected.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers):

According to the latest information available centrally, 404 cells at Full Sutton, Acklington and Huntercombe are not in use as a consequence of disagreements with local POA branches over staffing levels. One of these, at Huntercombe, has been registered as a dispute under the agreed disputes procedure. Discussions are taking place at all three establishments in an attempt to resolve the issues.
