HC Deb 25 March 1991 vol 188 c288W
Mr. Lewis

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what progress has been made in discussions on the European Community over-60s card.

Mr. Jack

The United Kingdom welcomes the proposal for an over-60s card and has responded positively to the idea. However, we, like other EC member states, are not yet in a position to reply finally to the Commission about implementation. Departmental officials are having further discussions with their European counterparts to seek to resolve various problems associated with the introduction of such a card.

I recently wrote to Members of the European Parliament about this matter and I will send the hon. Member a copy of the letter.
