Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Antrim, East (Mr. Beggs) on 5 March,Official report, column 90, what was the ultimate destination of the cargo of explosives carried on MV Breydon; whether there are regular shipments of explosives and ammunition to the Army through Drogheda port; and when the marine accident investigation branch investigation will be completed.

Mr. Mcloughlin

The greater part of the cargo was consigned to two commercial concerns, dealing in industrial explosives, in Dublin. The rest was for the Irish Ministry of Defence. The ultimate destination of the consignments is not known; there are regular shipments of explosives through Drogheda. On occasions these include consignments for the Irish. Ministry of Defence, and the marine accident investigation branch expects to complete its investigation next month.
