To ask the Prime Minister if he will establish a single department of state to supervise matters relating to the food chain from farm to plate.

[holding answer 21 March 1991]: No. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food already performs this function, sharing responsibility for food safety with the Department of Health.
