HC Deb 25 March 1991 vol 188 c319W
Mr. Butterfill

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what public funding is used to promote fluoridation; and if he will publish a statement detailing the nature and extent of that funding over the last five years.

Mr. Dorrell

Regional health authorities are generally responsible for local schemes for water fluoridation. Information on the total cost of these schemes is not available. Some financial assistance is, however, provided from central funds. This amounted to:

£
1986–87 262,000
1987–88 433,000
1988–89 1,168,000
1989–90 430,000
1990–91 257,784

In addition a grant under section 64 of the Health Services and Public Health Act 1968 has been made each year to the British Fluoridation Society as follows:

£
1986–87 20,000
1987–88 20,000
1988–89 30,000
1989–90 30,000
1990–91 33,000
