HC Deb 21 March 1991 vol 188 c201W
Ms. Richardson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the maximum number of hours spent by a woman in seclusion at a women's prison or young offenders' institution over the last 12 months; and what is the average number of hours spent by women in seclusion.

Mrs. Rumbold

The information is not available in the form requested. Inmates may be removed from normal prison location at their own request or as a result of their behaviour. Inevitably the regime available to them is limited, but wherever circumstances allow they are able to associate with others in a similar position. Whatever the reason for their segregation, inmates will receive regular visits from the governor, medical officer and chaplain, and the staff on the unit on which they are held will be available to them as necessary.
