HL Deb 21 March 1991 vol 527 c45WA
Baroness Blackstone

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the estimate of the amount of teacher time required to conduct the standard assessment task of the 1991 national curriculum assessment arrangements for key stage one, in addition to the 30 hours referred to on page three of the specification for the development of standard assessment tasks in core subjects for pupils at the end of key stage one of the national curriculum produced by the School Examinations and Assessment Council.

Baroness Blatch:

The amount of time required to conduct the standard assessment tasks will vary from teacher to teacher depending on the size of his or her class. Overall the tasks, apart from the individual reading test, have been designed to be conducted by a single teacher and to occupy at maximum about one half of the classroom time over a three week period. The individual reading tests, which will involve each child reading aloud to a teacher on a one-to-one basis, should occupy about 20 minutes per pupil.
