HC Deb 19 March 1991 vol 188 cc107-8W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total number of students attending all designated courses for all student loans who are potentially eligible for student loans in Scotland.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 18 March 1991]: It is estimated that some 70,000 students domiciled in Scotland are eligible for a loan in the academic year 1990–91. The estimate may be revised as further data become available.

Loan-bearing courses do not require designation if they are at institutions receiving support from public funds. The Secretary of State may designate as loan-bearing courses of higher education at other institutions under regulation 4 of the Education (Student Loans) Regulations 1990.
