HC Deb 18 March 1991 vol 188 c20W
Dr. Michael Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what expenditure is expected in 1990–91 on the residual obligations of British Shipbuilders.

Mr. Leigh

Arising out of settlement of an outstanding claim by Trafalgar House, British Shipbuilders now has a liability of £17 million not covered by the provision in the 1990–91 supply estimates. Parliamentary approval for the necessary payment to BS will be sought through a supplementary supply estimate on class IV vote 2 in 1991–92. Pending that approval, this expenditure, which is urgent, will be met by a repayable advance from the Contingencies Fund.
