HC Deb 18 March 1991 vol 188 c44W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what land he has purchased from ScotRail within the past three years in(a) Inverclyde, (b) Strathclyde and (c) Scotland as a whole.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Information as to the sellers of land purchased by the Secretary of State for Scotland is not always included in records maintained of land purchase transactions. Accordingly, to discover which land purchased by the Secretary of State within the past three years was so purchased from ScotRail, it would be necessary to examine individual case transaction files. As there are many hundreds of transactions involving the Secretary of State as purchaser, the relevant information in answer to the question could be obtained and provided only at disproportionate cost.
