HC Deb 15 March 1991 vol 187 c699W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Iraqi nationals have(a) permanent residence, (b) exceptional leave to remain, (c) student status and (d) political asylum, as of the latest available date.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

[holding answer 12 March 1991]: It is estimated from the latest labour force surveys and immigration control data that, at present, some 7,000 Iraqis are usually resident in the United Kingdom, including students. In addition, some 1,300 Iraqis have been granted exceptional leave since 1983, and about 200 Iraqis have political asylum.
