Mr. Needham

The Government's economic development strategy for Northern Ireland aims to improve the competitiveness of the Northern Ireland economy and thereby bring about increased profitability and employment.

17. Mr.To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the current level of unemployment in Northern Ireland.

At 7 February 1991, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 97,817 unemployment claimants in the Province. This represents a fall of 451 over the last month and 1,122 over the last year.
