To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what are the implications of "Options For Change" for the security policy for Northern Ireland.

On 8 November 1990, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland published a statement on the Government's security policy in Northern Ireland. The statement makes it clear that the armed forces will continue to support the RUC, with all the resources necessary, to ensure the defeat of terrorism; "Options for Change" will not alter this policy.
