HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 cc680-1W
Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will show in table form, for each year since 1965–66, the total import duties and levies on foodstuffs as a whole, imported into the United Kingdom, and separately for the following categories:(a) cereals,(b) meat including livestock destined for consumption,(c) dairy products and (d) other items.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

I have been asked to reply.

I regret that the information is not available in the form requested and could not in any way be provided for the full period requested except at disproportionate costs.

The tables show the levy and duty for both foodstuffs and non-foodstuffs from the four most recent years in each case. Separate figures distinguishing between foodstuffs and non-foodstuffs are not available.

These figures are not directly comparable with those for levy. Import duty is summarised by tariff chapters only and these include items not subject to levy and exclude related foodstuffs in other tariff chapters.
