To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many prisoners absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1989;

(2) how many prisoners absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1990;

(3) how many prisoners absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1988.

The number of prisoners who absconded in each of the three years referred to is as follows:

These figures include prisoners who absented themselves from the prison and those prisoners who failed to return having been temporarily released for such purposes as home leave.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many prisoners who absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1900 were recaptured;

(2) how many prisoners who absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1988 were recaptured;

(3) how many prisoners who absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1989 were recaptured.

In 1988 a total of 38 prisoners unlawfully at large from Drake Hall open prison were recaptured.

During 1989 a total of 64 prisoners unlawfully at large from Drake Hall open prison were recaptured. Of these, three had absconded during 1988.

During 1990 a total of 53 prisoners unlawfully at large from Drake Hall open prison were recaptured. Of these, two had absconded during 1989.

During 1991, two prisoners who had absconded during 1990 have been recaptured.

(2) how many prisoners who absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1990 and have not been recaptured were serving sentences for drug-related offences;

(3) how many prisoners who absconded from Drake Hall open prison in 1988 and have not been recaptured were serving sentences for drug-related offences.

Of those prisoners who absconded during 1988 and remain unlawfully at large, a total of four were in custody for drug-related offences.

Of those prisoners who absconded during 1989 and remain unlawfully at large, a total of 12 were in custody for drug-related offences.

Of those prisoners who absconded during 1990 and remain unlawfully at large, a total of three were in custody for drug-related offences.
