HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 cc639-41W
Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many dentists in each FHSA have withdrawn from the NHS since 1 October 1990.

Mr. Dorrell

Between 1 October 1990 and 28 February 1991, 509 dentists withdrew from Family Health Services Authority—FHSA—dental lists in England, and 394 dentists were added to those lists. This represents a net decrease of 115, less than 0.7 per cent. of the total. The details for each FHSA in England are set out in the table.

These figures are derived from information on the number of registered dentists on an FHSA list as notified by FHSAs to the Dental Practice Board. Since some dentists practise in more than one FHSA, the total number of different dentists for England is less than the sum of the dentists for individual FHSAs.
