HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 c665W
Mr. Dunnachie

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if his Department will review its rules with regard to the treatment of awards from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board as savings for the purpose of benefit entitlement assessment; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Widdecombe

The vast majority of payments from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board have no effect whatsoever on social security benefits.

The rules for the income-related benefits were changed in October 1990 so that compensation payments arising from a personal injury which are placed on trust are completely disregarded when deciding entitlement to benefit. The normal rules apply to payments made by the trustees.
