HC Deb 13 March 1991 vol 187 c536W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will indicate the savings to the Exchequer from the reduced income support entitlements of 16 to 18-year-olds and of 18 to 25-year-olds; and if he will specify these figures separately and for each year since the changes were introduced and the projected savings 1991.

Mr. Scott

There are no such savings. The estimated expenditure for the first year of income support was based on the previous year's supplementary benefit expenditure. Since 1988 the personal allowances for 16 to 17-year-olds and for 18 to 24-year-olds have been uprated annually and will be increased again from April 1991.
