To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many in-patients and how many day cases were treated at Basingstoke district hospital in 1978–79 and in 1990–91, or the most recent year for which statistics are available.

Over the period from 1979 to 1989–90 in-patient and day case treatment at the Basingstoke district hospital has increased as follows:

1979 1989–90
In-patient Cases 13,958 21,303
Day Cases 2,887 6,365

The figures for 1979 are derived from discharge and deaths; those for 1989–90 are derived from finished consultant episodes.
