HC Deb 13 March 1991 vol 187 c564W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what advice he has given to landowers or occupiers concerning the need to protect active badger setts during agricultural or related activities.

Mr. Curry

The Ministry's agricultural development and advisory service (ADAS) provides advice on request to landowners and occupiers where it is necessary to resolve problems caused by badger activities. This is done in strict adherence to legislation and the welfare of badgers and often is in co-operation with other interested organisations such as the Nature Conservancy Council.

All advice is subject to the statutory need to balance environmental and wildlife interests with those of agriculture and related activities.

Opportunities are taken to promote the protection of badgers to landowners and occupiers often in association with other organisations.
