§ Mr. Kenneth BakerThe Home Office employs staff in some 320 workplaces throughout the country. Nursery provision is generally focused on areas which have considerable concentration of staff: it is already available in Croydon and in Bootle and will shortly be available in Westminster and north London. Holiday play schemes are also available in Croydon, Bootle and Westminster as well as at Peterborough, but there is no current provision for after school child care. The Department contributes to the cost of the existing provision and would expect to continue to so subsidise any future similar initiatives in which its local managers are prepared to invest. There is no central record of costs nor estimate of future costs.
