To ask the Minister for the Arts what steps he is taking to ensure that the necessary refurbishment of museums and galleries is being systematically and professionally undertaken.

I have commissioned Arup Research and Development to conduct a survey of the building renovation needs of the museums and galleries which I sponsor. I expect to receive its report in summer 1991.
