HC Deb 07 March 1991 vol 187 c232W
Sir David Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what aid Her Majesty's Government are giving, and proposing to give, to the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Mrs. Chalker

In 1990–91 we are providing about £1.2 million in support of United Kingdom voluntary agency activities in the west bank and Gaza strip and for training awards in the United Kingdom for Palestinians. We hope to maintain at least the same level of support in 1991–92. In addition we are contributing to UNRWA's activities in the occupied territories—United Kingdom contribution of £5.5 million in 1990 and £6.0 million in 1991—and through the EC budget which in 1991 has provision for 102 million ecu for food aid, project assistance, and emergency relief to the Palestinians. The United Kingdom share of this will be around £12 million.
