To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to secure the future survival and status of the red grouse and other game birds in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Trippier

The Nature Conservancy Council undertakes research into the populations of all game birds on an annual basis. In addition, they are involved in several studies relating to the survival of the red grouse and other game bird species, and to the effective management of their habitats. The results of the studies will be made available to the Department.
