Mr. Janner

To ask the Attorney-General how many and what percentage of officers in each grade (1–7) and overall in the Law Officers Department are(a) women and (b) from ethnic minorities, respectively.

The Attorney-General

In the Departments for which I am responsible the number and percentage of officers in each grade from 1 to 7 and overall who are(a) women and (b) from ethnic minorities respectively as at 1 April 1990 (4 March 1991 in the case of the Crown prosecution service) are as follows:

the individuals have been known to management, due to the small size of the Department. In the Serious Fraud Office the setting up of an equal opportunities review will be undertaken by the recently appointed grade 7 head of finance and establishment officer. As a result, it is expected that a formal monitoring and review system will be in place by the summer of this year.

In the other Departments, information on the ethnic origins of staff has been kept up to date.
