§ Mr. MaxtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many employment training places in Scotland in 1990–91 were taken up by trainees in the categories of (i) all 18 to 24-year-olds unemployed for at least six months and (ii) those between 18 and 50 years unemployed for two years or more.
§ Mr. Allan StewartPrecise information about numbers of trainees is not available in the form requested. Information about people who take up employment training places is obtained from returns submitted by training managers and is incomplete. However, from these returns it is estimated that, in Scotland, from 1 April 1990 to 4 January 1991, 14.7 per cent. of all starts were aged 18 to 24 years and unemployed for at least six months and 24.4 per cent. were aged between 18 and 50 years and unemployed for two years or more.
