Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (I) if he will identify those district health authorities which contract out the processing of cervical smear tests to private laboratories; and the number of tests involved for each district;

(2) if he will give the average cost of processing each cervical smear test within the National Health Service; and the average cost for the smear test contracted out to laboratories outside the National Health Service.
