To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he is yet in a position to announce the date for the implementation of section 37 of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990.

The changes to the Abortion Act 1967 contained in section 37 of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 will be implemented on 1 April 1991. The Secretary of State for Health has made an order, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional Provision) Order 1991, SI 480 C. 10, to bring into force section 37 of the Act and to make transitional provision for a period of one month, and laid before the House the Abortion Regulations 1991, SI 499. The Secretary of State for Scotland has simultaneously laid the Abortion (Scotland) Regulations 1991, SI 460 S. 41.
