To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his most up-to-date estimate of the number of jobs that have been created by the Inverclyde initiative; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The latest information available shows that the total number of jobs created by projects which have been assisted by the Inverclyde initiative between March 1985 and May 1990 is approximately 3,840. The initiative's period of operation officially expired in March 1990.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his most up-to-date estimate of the jobs that have been created by the Inverclyde enterprise zone; and if he will make a statement.

The latest information available on jobs in the Inverclyde enterprise zone shows that at September 1990, 356 new jobs had been created with 362 existing jobs secured. In addition, 1,083 new jobs were forecast in companies locating in the zone.
