HC Deb 06 March 1991 vol 187 c225W
Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether it is his policy to discuss arms sales to non-NATO countries with other NATO countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

As the need arises, I discuss the sale to non-NATO countries of collaboratively developed defence equipment with participating NATO partners. Defence officials are involved in discussions with appropriate NATO and other countries, bilaterally and multilaterally, on matters relating to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, missile technology control regime and measures to prevent chemical and biological weapon proliferation.

Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether the conference of national armaments directors has discussed arms sales to non-NATO countries; and whether there are any plans for the conference of national armaments directors to discuss arms sales to non-NATO countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

No substantive discussion of this subject has taken place in the conference of national armaments directors and we have no plans to raise the subject in this forum.
