HC Deb 01 March 1991 vol 186 c633W
Mr. Gwilyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the level of funding for capital expenditure for primary and secondary schools during each of the last five years.

Sir Wyn Roberts

Capital spending by county councils for education and other services is covered by the issue of credit approvals (formerly capital allocations) which convey permission to borrow. The majority of resources to individual councils are distributed by means of a formula and are not hypothecated to specific schemes or to particular services. At an all-Wales level the total assumed gross provision for capital spending on education was:

Total assumed gross provision for capital spending on education

£ million
1987–88 43.0
1988–89 47.5
1989–90 52.9
