§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if, pursuant to his announcement of Wednesday 20 February of an investigation into incidents on the Central line of London Underground on Tuesday 19 February, he will seek and make it his policy to publish particulars concerning(a) the number of staff rostered and on duty, respectively, at platform level at Bethnal Green and Liverpool Street stations, respectively, at the commencement of the incident and (b) any changes in the arrangements for the overhaul and maintenance of Central line rolling stock that has occurred since 1984.
§ Mr. FreemanLondon Underground is undertaking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents on the Central Line of 19 February. The Health and Safety Executive's railway inspectorate will consider the report when it is received and, subject to its findings, make any necessary recommendations. As far as rolling stock is concerned, day-to-day maintenance is an operational matter for the Underground. Current rolling stock will all be replaced by 85 brand new trains as part of the ongoing modernisation of the Central line, with the first of the trains due in service early next year.
