In local authority homes for children and the elderly, there were, at October 1989, 434 and 775 staff respectively with a formal qualification; but the corresponding information on homes for the mentally handicapped is not separately identified. A total of 1,545 officers in charge and assistant officers in charge of local authority residential establishments were qualified as follows:
