To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions Her Majesty's Government have had with the government of the People's Republic of China about the future of Hong Kong.

During my visit to Peking in April, I discussed Hong Kong with senior Chinese leaders. A further round of official talks on Hong Kong's new airport took place in Peking on 18–22 May. The 19th plenary meeting of the Sino-British joint liaison group took place in Hong Kong on 11–13 June. There are also frequent contacts on diplomatic channels.

Mr. Hurd

I have no immediate plans to visit Hong Kong again.
