To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will set a timetable for consultation on and reform of the legislation in Scotland regarding tree preservation orders.

Mr. Lang

I hope to issue in the autumn a consultation paper making proposals for improving the present system of tree preservation in Scotland, for implementation when a legislative opportunity is available.
