Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, further to his replies to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Provan,Official Report, 14 June, column 713, what information he has on whether clinical waste incinerators in the national health service in Scotland are effectively complying with current pollution control legislation; and when the last report of inspection of the clinical waste incinerators was submitted to him.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I am aware that three clinical waste incinerators in the national health service in Scotland are experiencing difficulty in complying with current pollution control legislation. No report of inspection of clinical waste incinerators has been submitted to my right hon. Friend; powers to control emission standards are vested in local authorities.
