§ Dr. David Clark
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many cases of feline spongiform encephalopathy have been confirmed in cats to date; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. Gummer
Feline spongiform encephalopathy is not a notifiable disease, but I am aware of 16 confirmed cases in the United Kingdom.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many cases of canine spongiform encephalopathy have been confirmed in dogs to date; and if he will make a statement.

No case of a spongiform encephalopathy in a dog has been reported anywhere in the world.
