HC Deb 24 June 1991 vol 193 c366W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received concerning the intention of the Post Office to combine south Wales with south-west England for Royal Mail purposes; what discussions he has had with the Post Office concerning this matter; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

We have received representations from the hon. Member for Ceredigion and Pembroke, North (Mr. Howells) and from the Gowerton branch of Plaid Cymru concerning the location of the Royal Mail administrative headquarters for the combined south Wales and south-west England area. We understand that Royal Mail will not be transferring its total divisional administrative base into one location. There will be several outstanding administrative units. We have written to the chairman of the Post Office pressing the case for Wales as a location for the administrative staff. The chairman has assured me that the location of the divisional headquarters and its outstations will be carefully considered.
