HC Deb 24 June 1991 vol 193 cc372-3W
Mr. Nellist

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is now in a position to determine the application for British citizenship, reference IMPH330480/4 (S) which was first raised with his Department on 27 April 1989; on what date he requested from the embassy in Islamabad the confirmation that entry clearances for settlement had been issued and when that confirmation was received; whether all outstanding routine inquiries in this cases have now been completed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

A final decision on this application was delayed while we obtained evidence that the applicant met the statutory requirements regarding residence in the United Kingdom. With this in mind we wrote to the British High Commission in Islamabad on 21 December 1990 for details of entry clearances issued to the applicant and her daughter in 1982. This information was received at the beginning of February 1991. From that and from information supplied by her solicitors we are now satisfied that the application may be granted, subject to her making an affirmation of allegiance. Her daughter will also be registered as a British citizen.
