§ Mrs. ClwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance Her Majesty's Government are giving to facilitate the proposed referendum in the western Sahara through(a) the United Nations, (b) the Polisario Front and (c) other ways.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggWe have remained impartial in this dispute, preferring to support the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General to find a just solution. We and other members of the Security Council approved the Secretary-General's referendum plan on 29 April. We shall be paying our full assessed share of the costs of the operation and are considering a request to provide military observers.
