§ Mr. LangFigures for 1978–79, at 1988–89 prices, adjusted to the new planning total basis on readily available information were given by my right hon. and learned Friend, now the Secretary of State for Transport, in his answer of 30 October 1990 to the hon. Member. As explained, they must be treated as approximate figures only. The table shows these figures expressed in 1989–90 prices using the current GDP deflators at market prices adjusted to remove the distortion caused by the abolition of domestic rates.
