HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 cc119-20W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what were the numbers of pupils attending special schools in inner London(a) on 1 April 1990 and (b) on 1 April 1991; what guidance he has given to local education authorities on the number of special school places which should be provided as a proportion of all school places; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fallon

The number of pupils attending special schools in inner London in January 1990 was 6,095, the latest date for which information is available. No specific guidance has been issued to LEAs on the number of special school places they should provide: that is a matter for local decision.
