HC Deb 18 June 1991 vol 193 cc113-4W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Newport, West of 25 April,Official Report, column 521–22, if he will now consider what steps can be taken to assist the Shias and other people under threat in southern Iraq.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We remain very concerned by the situation of refugees in southern Iraq. We have supported the United Nations in its efforts to establish a humanitarian centre in Basra and to expand its operations in the area. We welcome the decision of the Secretary-General to send a high-level fact-finding mission to assess humanitarian requirements.
