Mr. O'NeillTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what redunancy terms will be offered to German civilians working at RAF Wildenrath and RAF Gutersloh; and what discussions have taken place with the German Government regarding redundancy arrangements for German civilians working at RAF Wildenrath and RAF Gutersloh.
156W
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleDiscussions are continuing.
Mr. O'NeillTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence why United Kingdom dependants employed at RAF Wildenrath and RAF Gutersloh are not entitled to redundancy payments.
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleThe terms and conditions of service for dependant employees serving with the British Forces in Germany do not make provision for redundancy payments. The average length of service for a dependant is 18 months, a period which would not normally attract an entitlement to redundancy terms. They are, however, entitled to two months' notice of dismissal. Where a dependant is to remain in Germany but their current post is to be cut, they will be offered any suitable vacancy on the same terms as German civilian employees.
Mr. O'NeillTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether those service personnel who are due to be redeployed from RAF Wildenrath and RAF Gutersloh will be transferred into positions that are suitable to their particular skills.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonIt is the intention that those personnel who are due to be redeployed from RAF Wildenrath and RAF Gutersloh will be posted to positions that utilise their particular skills wherever possible.
